The Klavkall Stall

The Klavkall Stall is the outcome of my final year project of my BA Design, entitled Bike Parts. The stool's design is a scaled-up model of the seat joint of my road bike. Undertaking studies of this joint at a 1:1 scale in wood, 3D print and resin inspired the idea to turn this bike part into a piece of furniture. By scaling up this form and removing it from its original context, I was able to give focus to an aspect of design which I found to be beautiful; an aspect of design which may normally go unnoticed.

I captured the over a month process of producing this piece in this film, starting from the foam core cut on the CNC, to the hours of sanding and polishing to get the perfect finish.

This film was made for my final year project, pitched as an advert for a collaboration between myself, Paul Smith and Canyon, who were the inspirations behind the project. Given the abstract appearance of the stool, I used this film to demonstrate the diverse range of sitting positions it offers, alongside the shape it is based on - my bike.
